 The “Vasile Goldiş” Western University of Arad was founded in 1990, having as a spiritual patron the illustrious man of culture - the historical personality that was Vasile Goldiş, the ideologist of the Great Union of December 1, 1918, managing to obtain, in a short period of time, the accreditation by the Law 240/2002. At the moment, the “Vasile Goldiş” Western University of Arad is included in the “European Higher Education Area”, being a signatory of the Magna Charta Universitatum of Bologna. At the same time, the “Vasile Goldiş” Western University is a full member of the European University Association - E.U.A., of the Danube University Association and holds the vice-presidency of the European Federation of Higher Schools - F.E.D.E, a participative body in the Council of Europe. Likewise, it is a member of the “Carolus Magnus” International Consortium, with its headquarters in Paris. Starting November 2007, the University became a member of the Alliance of Universities for Democracy (A.U.D.E.M), together with other 200 prestigious Universities in the entire world.
With a number of over 20.000 undergraduate students, master students and PhD candidates, with over 30.000 alumni, the University is a founding member of the Private Accredited University Union of Romania and has ongoing partnerships with over 38 Universities abroad and 18 Institutes of scientific research – which facilitates the organization of bachelor, master and co-tutelage doctorate study programmes, of international mobilities of students and teachers.
Having a modern academic Curriculum, focused on students, the “Vasile Goldiş” Western University of Arad now offers, according to the European Bologna model, all three higher education cycles: bachelor, master and doctorate. Due to the European system of transferable credits, undergraduate students, master students and PhD candidates benefit from the chance of mobility within the country and beyond. For the way in which the University fulfilled the mission it assumed, especially that of ensuring the quality of the educational and scientific research process, the A.R.A.C.I.S. Council granted it the “high degree of confidence” certificate, thus becoming one of the top universities of Romania. The “Vasile Goldiş” Western University is the only one in Arad which was granted the right to organized medical doctoral studies by the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports.
