A UNIVERSITY ROOTED IN MARAMUREȘ

The Baia Mare Extension was established in 1998, when the founding rector of UVVG, the late Prof. Dr. Aurel Ardelean, came to Baia Mare to lay the foundations of an academic campus in the heart of Maramureș. The first specializations—History–Geography and Journalism–English Language and Literature—marked the beginning of a solid university presence in Northwestern Romania, where young people no longer had to leave the county to pursue serious studies.

Over more than 25 years, the extension has continuously adapted to the realities of the Maramureș labor market. Today, the offering covers essential fields—economics, law, education, and IT—in which UVVG graduates have long been present in administration, schools, companies, and courts throughout the county. Partnerships with local authorities, the Chamber of Commerce, and economic agents ensure that our students find internship and employment opportunities in the community where they live.

The extension operates at 5 Culturii Street, with its own teaching staff, programs accredited or provisionally authorized by ARACIS, and the same rights for students as at any UVVG campus in Arad—including Erasmus+ mobility and access to all university services.

We train them right here, in the county, with six programs built around the economic and social realities of the region. The dual system in Economic Informatics means that students work with a real employer from the first year—not after graduation, but during their studies. We are convinced that the future of Maramureș does not lie in sending its young people away, but in preparing them thoroughly here, at home.

What does the dual system in Economic Informatics mean?

Half the time you learn theory in class. The other half you spend at a partner employer in Maramureș—with an internship scholarship. You learn exactly what companies require, with the people who will hire you. The specialization was provisionally authorized by ARACIS in 2025.
