Why choose to study Dental Technology?

A dentist cannot work alone. Behind every crown, orthodontic appliance, or denture that transforms a smile is a dental technician—the specialist who turns a clinical prescription into millimetre-precision work. If you enjoy building, working with materials, and combining science with manual skill, this is the specialization for you.

UVVG’s Dental Technology program operates within the Faculty of Dentistry—the first structure of its kind established at our university back in 1991, with direct roots in the Post-Secondary School of Dental Technology founded in Arad in 1956. This means you study just a few metres from dental medicine students, in the same building, with access to the same laboratory infrastructure and the same teaching staff made up of active practitioners.

The three years of study provide comprehensive training: dental prosthetics (fixed, removable, and composite), orthodontics, and oro-maxillofacial surgery. You do not learn from a single perspective—you learn to think like a specialist who understands what the doctor does, what the patient wants, and how to build the piece that meets both needs.

Upon graduation, you receive the Diploma Supplement in English—opening access to the European labour market. A border county with a multicultural profile, Arad is a starting point with far more opportunities than you might imagine.

Why choose to study this specialization at UVVG?

  • You work in the dental technology lab from the first semester—practice does not come after theory; it comes alongside it

  • You study in the same building as Dental Medicine students—accessing the same infrastructure and the same teaching staff

  • Small group (30 places)—professors know you by name, monitor the quality of your work, and provide individual feedback

  • EU-recognized degree with an English Diploma Supplement—you can work in any Member State immediately after graduation

  • Partnerships with suppliers of dental materials and equipment—direct contact with industry employers during your studies

  • Over 30 years of tradition—a network of alumni active in Romania and abroad, which you connect with early

  • Close to the regional labour market—dental practices and labs in Arad, Timișoara, and Hungary, less than an hour away

What can you become?

Dental Technology graduates enter the labour market quickly, with the option to work in private practices and laboratories, public medical institutions, or to establish their own dental laboratory. 75% of graduates work in the field shortly after completing their studies.

  • Fixed and removable prosthetics specialist

  • Orthodontic appliance specialist

  • Oro-maxillofacial surgical work specialist

  • Entrepreneur—your own dental laboratory

  • Collaborator with private dental practices

  • Dental materials specialist in профиль companies

The mission of the Dental Technology program is to train dental technicians with a solid background in dental prosthetics, orthodontics, and oro-maxillofacial surgery—specialists capable of integrating immediately into medical teams and private laboratories, complying with European quality standards, and responding to the needs of a real patient, not a theoretical case.

  • Application of the principles of morphology and functionality of the dento-maxillary apparatus in the design of prosthetic work

  • Design and fabrication of fixed prosthetic restorations — crowns, bridges, veneers

  • Execution of work specific to orthodontics and oro-maxillo-facial surgery

  • Use of materials, devices, and equipment specific to the dental technology laboratory

  • Design and fabrication of removable, semi-removable, and composite prosthetic restorations

  • Knowledge of management and health administration elements in the context of a laboratory or practice

Transversal Competencies

  • Planning laboratory activities — managing work schedules, resources, and deadlines imposed by the medical practice

  • Working in multidisciplinary teams — understanding the role of the dental technician in relation to the dentist and the patient

  • Efficient use of information sources, databases, and domain-specific software applications, including in languages of international circulation
