Why choose to study the Romanian Language Preparatory Program?

The Romanian Language Preparatory Program is intended for citizens of non-EU countries who wish to pursue university studies in Romania in programs taught in Romanian. Having Romanian language knowledge at a minimum certified level is a mandatory requirement imposed by Romanian legislation for enrollment in university studies.

The program lasts 1 academic year (2 semesters × 14 weeks) and concludes with the issuance of a Preparatory Year Certificate—the document required to enroll in a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral program at any accredited university in Romania. Attendance is mandatory.

UVVG has been organizing this program since the 2024–2025 academic year, drawing on direct experience with students from over 50 countries. We understand the challenges international students face when starting their studies and provide the appropriate academic framework to overcome them.

Graduates of the program may enroll in bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral studies at UVVG or at any other accredited higher education institution in Romania, in accordance with the Ministry of Education regulations (Order No. 5516/2024).

UVVG medical programmes are also available in English and French, but if you wish to study in Romanian, the preparatory year is the first step. You may also choose the medical-field-specific track.

Prospective students in Law, Economics, or other specialisations

All UVVG bachelor’s and master’s programmes taught in Romanian are accessible after completing the preparatory year.

Non-EU citizens without a Romanian language certificate

Applicants who cannot demonstrate language proficiency of at least B1 level are automatically enrolled in the preparatory programme, in accordance with the MEN methodology.

Applicants with secondary education completed outside Romania

The baccalaureate diploma or its equivalent, obtained in any education system, is the basic document required for enrolment in the preparatory programme.

The curriculum covers the linguistic competencies and general cultural knowledge necessary for integration into the Romanian academic environment.

  • Reading and text interpretation: comprehension of texts from various fields — science, law, medicine, economics

  • Specialized languages: modules oriented toward the chosen field — medical, legal, economic, or technical

  • Grammar and syntax: structure of the Romanian language, sentence construction rules, spelling and punctuation

  • Romanian culture and civilization: essential historical, social, and cultural context for integration into the university environment

  • Academic writing: drafting essays, papers, and documents in accordance with Romanian university standards

The curriculum follows the linguistic competency levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Upon completion, students reach level B2.
