Why choose to study Research master in biomedical sciences?

The Research Master’s in Biomedical Sciences is a programme delivered entirely in English, designed for graduates who want more than a degree—they want to understand disease mechanisms at the cellular and molecular level and produce original knowledge in the laboratory.

All courses, seminars, and research activities are conducted in English. The degree you earn opens access to PhD programmes and research positions at universities and institutes worldwide.

The programme prepares two clear profiles: the academic researcher—who continues with a PhD in Biology, Medicine, or related fields—and the biomedical laboratory specialist—who works in universities, research institutes, hospitals, or the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

Courses cover the current frontiers of cell biology, genomics and transcriptomics, molecular neurobiology, and molecular pathology. The practical component—microscopy techniques, cell cultures, experimental animal models, in vivo imaging—is an integral part of each year of study, not a separate module.

Why choose to study this specialisation at UVVG?

  • English-only teaching—degree compatible with international PhD programmes and research positions

  • Biomedical laboratory with equipment for microscopy techniques, cell cultures, and in vivo imaging

  • Small groups—direct access to research mentors, supervision throughout the dissertation thesis

  • Academic staff with active research activity—teaching from their own laboratory work

  • A natural pathway to a PhD—in Biology, Medicine, or related biomedical fields, in Romania or abroad

  • Access to Erasmus+ mobility—research placements and exchange of experience in partner European institutions

  • 50 places available in the Biology field—competitive admission, a cohesive master’s student community

Where can you work after graduation?

Graduates are prepared both to continue with PhD studies and for direct entry into the research, healthcare, and biotechnology industry sectors.

  • Universities with a biomedical profile

  • National research institutes

  • PhD programmes (Biology, Medicine)

  • Translational research centres

  • Hospital clinical laboratories

  • Research units in university hospitals

  • Molecular diagnostics centres

  • Cell and tissue banks

  • Pharmaceutical companies

  • Biotechnology laboratories

  • Medical device industry

  • CROs (Contract Research Organizations)

  • To train researchers with practical competencies in cutting-edge biomedical research — prepared for doctoral studies in Biology, Medicine, and related fields

  • To prepare specialists for research activities and laboratory work in universities, research institutes, healthcare facilities, and the biotechnology industry

  • To acquire in-depth knowledge in cell biology, genomics, transcriptomics, cell signaling, molecular neurobiology, and the molecular basis of human diseases

  • To develop practical skills in biomedical laboratory techniques: cell and molecular biology, microscopy, in vivo imaging, cell cultures, animal experimental models

  • To acquire the foundations of a research career: scientific research methodology, ethics of biomedical research, biostatistics, and scientific paper development

  • To complete an individual research project — integrated into the dissertation thesis — with an original contribution to the field

  • Application of advanced cellular and molecular biology techniques in biomedical research projects

  • Design and conduct of independent research studies, with proper application of biomedical methodology and ethics

  • Development of scientific papers in international academic format and presentation of research results in English

  • Analysis of molecular mechanisms of human diseases and interpretation of genomic and transcriptomic data

  • Use of biostatistical tools for analysis and interpretation of experimental data

  • Working in multidisciplinary research teams—in academic, clinical, or industrial contexts
